Sorry for all those coming up with some.... creative theories. Mine is more rational:
Looking at all the rumors from older forums, I've concluded that the Gwen quest was once the only quest to span both the Pre-Searing and Post-Searing. People could once get a Tapestry Shred from her, find her Broken Flute in Old Ascalon, discover a Tattered Cape outside Fisherman's Haven (and maybe also hear some NPC talk concerning her), and locate a Dead Flower near Sanctum Cay. These items where then handed over to the ghost of Sarah in the UW to procede with the quest, and finally, Gwen's ghost appeared deep in the UW to complete it.
The quest was meant for the first person who thought far enough ahead to find and keep all of the items up to this point, then, once it was completed for the first time, ANET began to dismantle it. First Gwen's Ghost and the Dead Flower were removed, then the Tattered Cape, and now the Broken Flute. Because one party actually did complete the quest, but because no one else could afterwards, these details became popular rumors.
This is all just my theory. I for one am very excited to know of the Preserved Red Iris Flower. I heard that someone from ANET was pleased to hear of people's interest in Gwen, so maybe they included more clues about her in NF!
|
why would they have disbanded the quest? i accept the fact that there was a quest in the underworld that included gwen at one time, but y get rid of it? maybe they decided that they could hook more ppl into it by making it possible for gwen to be alive. maybe they disbanded te quest so that she would be alive somewhere.
but did they really take out the broken flute?

Here is what i think, because with all this expansion sets going to come out, ANet needs people to do the prophecies set to cause Tyria is getting barren in the beginning missions. Thus they will suddenly make Gwen appear and give people uber items, people wont delete their old chars just to get the gwen items in pre-searing. So its a strategic move for Anet if they still want to make mullah.
Or, since gwen tailed ppl in pre-searing, she might later on be an important character in the later chapters.

they said that the fourth game will start a new story. maybe gwen will be the control character, the one that was carried over so that the gamers have some familiarity with the game and a place to start.

To get to The Secret Gwen Level, you have to crack Guild Wars. To do so you need to buy Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, then add the 2 cd-keys to your Guild Wars account. If it wont work, then keep trying(Or the cd-key you got is too old).
After that log in to your Guild Wars account and download an Open DII Cheat-program, and find the guild wars character you want. When you have that get all of your Gwen stuff(Tapestry Shred, Broken Flute, Iris Flower, Preserved Iris Flower etc) and 100 Ectos. Now with the cheat program you add a Haradric Cube to your Guild Wars character(Note: You will only get it half an hour after you added it). Log off from Guild Wars, and create a Diablo II: Lod account - Go to Battle.net and when the latest patch is downloaded, press the gem button AT LEAST 911 times. After that you go send an email to Anet with the text "I know what you did in 2001 - "YourCharacterName"". Wait 2 hours and log in to your Guild Wars account, then add ALL your Gwen stuff in the Horadric Cube and click the button in it. A portal will spawn next to you and the second you walk into it, you'll get attacked by Gwen. My team managed to kill her, but after that 2 more Gwens will come.
The 100 ectos are for me.

Nah... if it is, then its a terrible spoof.
Secret Cow Level in D2: LoD
H. Cube with Wurt's Leg and a tome of return (I think that's what it was called). Goto the Rogue's Camp after beating Baal and click on the transmute button on cube. Portal opens and you can now enter the Cow Level.
A spoof would be:
download the GW patch "gwenhome.zip" from www.gwenishere.com.
unzip file into your GW directory and read the gwen.txt file.
Add key to your account (from txt file)
the cube will appear on the character you log onto first. Then add flower from Pre-seering, tattered cape, and broken flute. Goto Ascolon City (Must have beaten the Titan Quests, including Titan Source) and hit transmute on the cube. A portal will open up (and is accessible to everyone on that district).
Then Titans and all the great things in the Underworld and Fisure of Woe will be waiting for you.
That would a spoof.

Actually you have to get all the titles on max level, Have your character clear UW and FoW solo then kill 10 000 000 000 Mantid Hatchlings then the gate opens. In the gate is a solo Mission where you fight gwen. If you can somehow beat it you get the title: "I Need a Life"

No gwen is "The Great Destoyer" reincarnated. The Great Dwarf may have defeated her a long time ago but she came back

With Gaile's revelation that the elite mission of nightfall will be released in a few months, and with her saying that there will be stuff that nobody expects, there is a distinct possibility that Gwen will make a quest/mission related appearance. What I'm hoping for is that all those extra prophecies items that I deleted (except the tapestry shred) won't be overly necessary for the completion of the mission.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
Possible Scenario: Much like the quest where Joko has you destroying the altar's of abaddon with the Rune of DOOM (sulfurous wastes quest), probably take the preserved iris flower to an altar of the goddess of truth and Kormir's avatar asks you to investigate what happened to Gwen. Probably a Jatoro Musagi mixed with the istan quest involving picking one of the three siblings for the family reward type mini-mission.
Or of course Gwen could be the newly appointed avatar of Dhuum and come firestorm us to death.
Either one sounds fun.

the only hint i can find is the quote "my daddy died 7 years ago..." so gwen is at least 8 in pre-searing.

I saved a lot of stuff from Gwen, and am looking for a Dead Flower and a Tattered Cape. If you have one, or both, PST me plz, paying up to 1K each. If you have a Tapestry Shread or Flute I'd apprieciate that but I might still have one.

This guy pmed me and told me how to start the quest for gwen, and It all spiraled from there.... But I'm not telling anything! Don't believe me? Here's a little experiment you can try. Go to Yaks Bend and put little Thom, and only Little Thom into your party, then travel backwards to ascalon foothills... Watch his speech bubble... He says some pretty wierd stuff.
